*   Is Meso-Lipotherapy micro-injections  painful ?
Meso-Lipotherapy treatments consist of micro-injections using tiny needles that are mostly shorter and   
thinner than needles used daily by insulin-dependent diabetics. Most patients say they do not feel the   
needles at all and that the procedures are not painful;  sometimes,  they  feel  a slight "pinch" when the
medication is injected ( it is the "pinch" technique used to ensure that the fat dissolving medication is  
injected directly to the targeted pocket of fat under the skin ). You probably won't feel much pain, if at  
all during the procedure, but you may during the first 24-48 hours or more after the procedure. Most pts
describe pain as " little background discomfort" or "soreness" in the treated areas and usually only last
temporarily for few days. According to a study / survey done over 17,000 patients, less than 5 % of
patients having any significant discomfort at any time during the injection process; and at one-hour post
treatment, most patients who felt the pain described it as a  background sensation that is easily bearable
without pain medication or with just Tylenol .  Less than 1% of patients notice any pain at one week
post-treatment. Indeed, after the first 48 hours, extra strength Tylenol is normally enough to make most
people comfortable. But just in case if you have low-threshold for pain or need stronger pain medication
than Tylenol ES or can not take Tylenol, please do not hesitate to ask our treating physicians for pain
prescription prior to leaving the office. Your safety and comfort are always # 1 concern.
Common expected sequaela after treatments include localized pain and transient erythema ( due to
release of histamine by mast cells indicating the fat-dissolving process begin working) around the  
injection area that usually go away within 48-72 hours;  moderate to large swelling around the treated
areas that usually peak at 1-3 days and mostly resolved in 1 week, while some take longer but are usually
temporarily ( according to the same study, < 10 % of patients report any significant swelling at one
week. ) In fact, temporary local swelling at the treated site is a desirable side effect indicating that
the fat dissolving process is working under the skin. Most swelling can be reduced simply with ice pack
applied 15-20 min to the affected areas in the first few days of treatment. Other less common side
effects include bruising, nausea, diarrhea ... which are often temporarily and dose-related to much higher
concentration than are safely allowed at our facility.

*   What is the difference between Mesotherapy and Lipotherapy (Lipolysis/Lipozip ..) ?
Mesotherapy : is a treatment to restore skin tone and elasticity and also used to reduce cellulite via
mostly painless micro-injections into the skin mesoderm layer.  Mesotherapy uses very small doses of
various medications selected from vitamins, enzymes, herbal/plant extracts into specific areas of skin,
depending on the condition being treated. Mesotherapy is injected only where it is needed. It mostly
targets fat and connective tissue under the skin.
Lipotherapy:  is a treatment that dissolves localized pockets of fat from specific target areas using  
stricter protocol-guided compounding medications, specially formulated and tested for sterility by most
state-regulated compounding pharmacies. It is mostly painlessly injected into specific areas of stubborn
pockets of fat. It is not a rapid weight-loss program nor a complete replacement for large area  
liposuction ( at least not at present time for large area yet but is very promising pending further
research / study...) It is designed to remove/reduce small to moderate-size stubborn pockets of frustrated
fats that you just seem can't get rid of  after trying diet & exercise or multiple weight loss programs. It
has been used to correct " displaced " pocket of fat even after liposuction / surgery and to enhance
overlying skin elasticity and youthful appearance with mesotherapy. When you have Lipolysis therapy,
you loses body size in inch(es) & not pounds. If you satisfy with losing  an average of an inch to 3 or 4
inches circumference diameter ( a very small group of the population does not respond to Lipotherapy
while some other patients lose between 8 to 14 inches and go from wearing a waist size  of 40 to 34 or
from wearing jean size of  > 30 to 26-27...), then may be Lipotherapy is right for you.  

The advantage of meso-lipotherapy injections to pill form is that, unlike pill form, it is specific to an
intended target area as opposed to diffusely diluted throughout the body, which reduces effectiveness  
and desirable end-result as seen in pill form.

*   Is the fat removed permanently ?
YES, given that you do not gain weight. PCDC breaks apart fat cells and excretes the dead cells & its
break-down components through our normal biological process as waste. Clinical study conducted in the
US ( @ UCLA ) indicates that PCDC used for localized fat dissolution  result in cell lysis. Experience
with lipo-dissolve and liposuction indicates that treated areas are resistant to new fat deposit. However,
that does not mean that you can eat all of what you like and never gain weight again because the
remaining surrounding fat cells in the body will expand to accommodate the increased intake of food.
Thus, it is important to continue with proper healthy diet and exercise. However, in case if  a
patient gains weight, she/he will see the treated areas gain less than other parts of the body because the
original fat cells were already destroyed and excreted.  

PCDC is usually contained in the treated areas as long as the needles & concentration used are of right
length / right dosage and done by  professionally trained physicians. Research studies show that one
hour after treatment, the medication has dispersed just one centimeter beyond the treated area & has
already begun to absorbed into the fat cells, causing them to expand ( and hence local swelling...) and  break
down of fat.  Most PCDC  safely passes through our body within 24 hours.
